Pappas family dines locally for third time

Coun. Dean Pappas is once again challenging the community to join him in eating only food produced within 160 kilometres of Peterborough for the next two weeks.

“I want to keep raising awareness in our community about this,” he said. “It’s really important that we think globally but live locally.”

This will be Pappas’ third time doing the 100-mile diet.

New signs ID local farmers

Signs meant to differentiate local farmers from resellers are slowly catching on but not all vendors are signing up, even though market-goers say they’re a good idea.

A new version of the signs first introduced last year has been sprouting up at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market in the last few weeks.

Lakefield event boosts future farmer’s market

LAKEFIELD – Every time Laurie Collette drives by a farm, she whispers a thank you to the farmer.

Yesterday, Collette created a big thank you with Lakefield Local Harvest — an event held in Isabel Morris Park.

It featured local chefs using local products, and gave local producers a chance to showcase their products before a weekly local farmers’ market is launched next spring.
